"It was an agreement when we were pregnant. We met on the 'Yoga for Future-Mommies' and became best friends and we happened to be pregnant with opposite genders and we agreed and..... okay... forget what I said. I don't even know what I said! And your dads are related! As in the far-related, related and so we decided..." Alice babbled on. While, I guess, I zoned out. An aftershock.

"So you made an arranged-marriage decision for us which we, as in Christabella and I, don't even know, and will never agree to. That's so... 50-s. Or 40-s... or whatever number-ties... it's just old fashioned! Can't we cancel it?" Zephyr asked, almost shouting.

"It's not that ba..." Alice stuttered.

"Well, guess what? I've got a girlfriend. She's errr... nice, beautiful and clever! Her name is... Jessica! Yea! Jessica!" Andrew added.

Everyone turned to me. I was numb. From all the information forced into my head. I think I need a new memory card or something. I was trying to interpret and understand every single thing they are saying but I can't. It's like they are speaking alien or something. Maybe I shouldn't speak bad about Zephyr. After all, he's my fiancé... OMIGOD! What am I saying? My what??? Okay. Let's just keep to Zephyr. This is weird and awkward.

"Christabella? What do you think?" Mr Jonathan asked. WHAT DO I THINK??? WHAT WILL I THINK??? WHAT SHOULD I THINK??? WHAT WOULD I THINK??? WHAT I MUST THINK??? Isn't it decided? If I said no, will they cancel it???

"Erm... I don't know... this is all too sudden... I... I need to go... to the restroom... the restroom..." I said. Giving an excuse so I can calm myself down. Or get myself away from all this...

"Zephyr, show her to the restroom..." Alice said.

"It's along the hallway there on you left," he pointed down the hallway.

"Go stand up and show her!" Alice whispered, giving him a nudge.

"Oh, it's okay. I can find it myself. Really..." I said.

Zephyr grunted a bit and mumbled something about his fiancée being a navigator-idiot. I felt my jaw dropped. Ouch! Then he motioned to me to follow him. It was a few second before my feet actually obeyed my brain.

When we reached the end of the looooong halfway. Gosh! I gotta say, they ARE too rich to be true... I stopped and turned around. It was so sudden we almost collided.

"If you don't agree, then you say it. I won't be hurt if you don't want to marry me... Cause I don't want to either," I said as coolly as I can.

"Who said I was gonna marry you? Don't try to make it sound like I want to marry you in the first place. Cause you are not worth my time..." Zephyr said. I winced, ouch! That hurts too...

..............................................................

Zephyr realized what he had just said. Now he felt guilty.

Christabella said, " And who wants to marry a jerk like you?"

"Who wants to marry an idiot and retard like you?" Zephyr shot back.

"You better watch it!" Christabella hissed. Trying to contain her anger.

"Oh really? Or what? What will you do? Cry?" Zephyr faked a laugh.

"I'm gonna... slap you!" Christabella raised her hands to slap him...

"Ooo... I'm scared..." Zephyr teased.

"Oh! How cute... arguing..." Alice said.

"I'm not marrying him!" Christabella said.

"I'm not marrying her!" Zephyr said at the same time.

"And meant to be too!" Tanya-Lee added. Christabella gave her mother a really hard stare. But Tanya-Lee deliberately ignored her and started giggling with Alice. Christabella shuddered. Adults giggling are really weird.

Zephyr came down and glanced my way on the couch. His favourite couch. With his dog's pee on it. You so don't want me to tell you the story. Just plain disgusting. But of course, they had the couch cleaned thoroughly and dried under the sun for a week. Alice couldn't stand the dog. It's cute and all but it's just not potty-trained...

"Hey! Why are you here?" Zephyr asked, surprised and annoyed.

"Uh! My mum's here, if you didn't see her beside me already. Why are YOU here?" I asked, staring at him topless. Ooo!!! Six packs!!! Hawt!!! I shook my head. I must NOT be attracted! Must NOT be attracted!!! I glanced sideways at his abdomen again. Man! He must be doing a a h*ll lot of sit ups and pumping! Hardcore! Pfoo! He saw me looking, he quickly put his shirt on and put his arms protectively across his abdomen. I turned away in embarrassment.

"Apparently, fyi*, THIS is MY home," he replied coldly, staring back at me.

Embarrassed and blushing furiously till I can feel my blood in my head boiling, I mumbled," Owh... I didn't know that..." adding an almost inaudible 'idiot' at the end of the sentence. Apparently, I was too caught up with YOUR six packs to remember that I'm in your house, sitting and YOUR dog-peed couch... so it's all your fault. I guess my words never escapes his bat-like ears. I mean, seriously? The next thing he did and said was...

Point at my accusingly and said, "I heard that... you..."

Alice cleared her throat noisily and said, "Aah!!! Come sit here, hone..." Zephyr shot her a warning stare, Alice gave a nervous chuckle and continued, "I mean, Zephyr..." Alice patted on the empty space in the couch beside me. "Your dad should be home with Michael any minute now..." I shook my head wildly. No! No! No!!! Don't sit beside me! Do NOT sit beside me! No!!!

Michael's my dad. Michael Mitchell. His dad has a really... UNIQUE name. Alexandre Sonia Jonathan. (say... A-les-san-dryer So-ni-uh. Man! Even the pronunciation is weird... I mean... UNIQUE)

"Why? I mean why do I have to sit beside HER?" Zephyr asked, irritated.

"Because I asked you to..." Alice said with a look that said, you better do or else... *The evil laugh*

Zephyr hesitated before rolling his eyes and then sat down, slumped, beside me. I moved away.

"Sit properly!" Alice hissed. He straightened up.

Hahahahaha!!! What mama's boy! Must tell Chrysantha about it!

"What's so important? Can we just get over this fast? I've better things to do," Zephyr said, not bothering to be polite despite his guests being present.

"Be polite," Alice warned. There was a click sound and the front door opened. Both our fathers in identical business suit walked in. They are both best friends. I don't know how they are related though. At least, I don't remember...

"Hey! So what's up everybody? Okay, let's get started!" that was my dad. He's... never snapped out of his high-school years...

"So you both must have known that, no doubt your mothers have told you both before we were here, you both are engaged on Christabella's 16th birthday right?" my dad continued, speaking like a bullet train engine.

Stunned, Zephyr and I said, " WHAT???!!!"

"You've gotta be kidding me, dad," I said, hoping he was joking. He's gonna break into a smile now and say he's joking like always. That's my typical dad. But... of all days... he chose today to be not-so-typical...

"Uhhh... dear... I'm not joking," he said seriously, and a bit unsettled. Maybe because he just realised that he was the one to break the bad news (for Zephyr and I) or the good news (predictably the adults).

WEINI - I Love Him Not - Chapter 1, Part 3 : I'll Never Like Him Anyway

You know, sometimes, parents think they know what you want. I don't know why, maybe because they think they made you and you are a part of them and all and you SHOULD think alike and stuff... OKAY! STOP!!!

This is one of the things I really truly disagree with. I don't know why they came up with that idea in the first place! I mean, hello? It's like the 21st century!!!??? Who still does that? Maybe in the traditional tribes and sometimes, you know, for family business and stuff. But for the fun of it because it's adorable to do it? That sounded really wrong...

.........................................................................................................

"Well, I think we should set the date on her sixteenth birthday..." Mrs Jonathan suggested hopefully. Now, that was Zephyr's mother, Alice Jonathan.

"But Alice! Her birthday is due in 3 weeks! Will there be enough time to prepare?" Mrs Mitchell asked doubtfully. Now that, was Christabella's mother, Tanya-Lee Mitchell. (don't ask me what's with the Lee, it sounds like Chinese I know. But I'm really sure, my mother is 100% pure un-Chinese)

"Sure! If we start now, of course! Everything will go according to plan AFTER we succeed in confronting them about it. Now that's the hardest part..." Alice sighed. She thought about everything and her husband's business. It was initially not that, it was just a hope actually, but then... Time changes things. Now that there's an global economy crisis. The only way to solve it is to get this done.

"Hello, mom. Hello, Mrs Mitchell," Zephyr greeted oblivious to what the women were talking about. Probably some gossips. He's never interested. It's either some friend's daughter gave birth or some neighbour's secret love affair. You know, the common stuff.

"Hello, sweetheart! You're home!" Alivce said with a warm smile. Zephyr gave a warning look and frowned, "Mom!!!" he hissed.

"Hi, Zephyr," Tanya-Lee greeted, with her always-brilliant smile.

"Uhh... I think, I'll go shower first..." Zephyr said, excusing himself as quickly as possible, he so don't wanna get caught in the midst of womanly chats. Moreover, he's not in a mood to entertain Tanya-Lee now. And he was sweaty and sticky. He stank.

"Sure, hon... but please be fast. There's something important that we've got to tell you..." Alice chirped happily.

Zephyr's forehead creased into a frown. What can they talk about to me? Is their definition of important really important? Man, it doesn't sounds right... So, he double-checked," Okay... is it REALLY important?"

"Yes it is!" Tanya-Lee said enthusiastically. A bit... too enthusiastic. A bit... too quickly. That made everything seems so suspiscious. So... weird...

Zephyr clenched his fist and told himself to cool down. He blew his whistle again. The girls started moving around. Running. Passing ball. He followed Christabella's movements. Christabella glanced at him for a moment as if thinking about something. But she was too slow, a ball hit her squarely in the face. "Christabella!" She falls down like a puppet which strings were cut and went unconscious.

Zephyr ran towards Christabella with his heart racing. Oh no!

.....................................................................................................

I saw him clench his fist and bit his bottom lip. He blew his whistle again and everyone started the routine again. I glanced at him, wondering if it's true he is my far-related cousin. He's handsome, that's undeniable, but his attitude seriously need a makeover. Suddenly, there was a change in his expression, the look of being horrified as he opened his mouth to shout.

The shout never reached my ears, before a high-speed flying object (the basketball) hit me hard in my face. The impact was hard and I felt numbness creep through my whole skull. The last thing I heard when the numbness fade a bit was Christabella... before total darkness engulfed me in it's embrace. The next thing I know, I woke up in Heaven *choir singing*... okay... I was joking. I opened my eyes to see his worried face hovering over mine.

It felt like as if there was an earthquake. When I finally gained my full consciousness, I realised that he was shaking my shoulders really violently. He asked if I was okay. I wanted to say that he's not making my vision any better by shaking me that hard. But my nose and mouth hurts. In fact, my whole face hurts! I pushed him away and ran out of the gym. Behind me, Chrysantha followed. I felt the weight and heat of a stare. I knew it wasn't Chrysantha's or anyone else... but his...

WEINI - I Love You Not - Chapter 1, Part 1 : I'll Never Like Him Anyway

First time reading this story? CLICK HERE FOR PART 1

It all started with that whistle that I hated.

And it continues with the voice that I hated, "No! NO! NOO!" that's the new coach who is the 'hot' guy in the school. Only sixteen this year and girls from twelve to seventeen are drooling over him. PRACTICALLY drooling! Let me pick an example. Or maybe a few EXAMPLES... hmm...

I remember when Jesicca was staring at him, she walked right in to a wall... and she had to deal with a really bad nose bleed. Or! That time when Sandra FORGOT to swallow her mushroom soup before smiling at him, resulting in a disgusting wet front skirt. OR! OR! OR! That time when Sukie-Lee turned to wave at him during a tennis pratice and well, everyone can guess what happened next... anyway, she was in the hospital for two weeks after correcting her broken nose.

"Christabella? Hello?" I snapped out of my trance to see a really close hand waving in front of me, I jumped back a little. "My goodness Christabella! Can you stop day dreaming all the time??!!" I squeaked, "Yes?" he rolled his eyes, "That way, the opponent can just tap away your ball and say bye bye! Does you brain works?" he said, on the verge of exploding, adding with a cold stare.

I really, really, REALLY solemnly swear, I hate his guts and everything about him from the end of his strands of hair to the tip of his toenails back then. Let me describe his looks a bit. He's got:
A sidewave bangs, dark brown, bits of golden brown to be exact.
Straight teeth (damned I love straight teeth!)
Brown eyes with that warm feeling.
Straight nose and perfectly healthy skin.
I doubt he has issues with breakouts. No... I think he probably don't even know the existence of acne and pores. Guys his age are having an acne war with those puberty rage! Girls too!

Nope, he doesn't have that fairytale electric blue eyes in novels. Nope! he's not blonde! Nope! His voice isn't sexy, it just soothes me. That is my point of view now. Back then, the quietest peep from his lips was just plain irritating. I feel the urge to lay a fist on his perfectly straight nose whenever he spoke. As hard as my own arm lets me. Not because his nose makes me jealous, I just feel like hitting him. That was waaaaay back then.

Despite his to-die-for looks, his attitude was a tad LOT unbearable! Horrible! Impossible! Unthinkable! And all the "negative-able"! When he turned and stormed off the basketball court, I pulled funny faces at him which made everyone laugh. He turned back and shot me his icy-laser glare and that did it, everyone stopped laughing. Oh! By the way, did I mention that 13 out of the 15 girls on the team joined because of him?

The other two who didn't like him were Chrysantha and me. She's like, uh! My best-est friend forever! And! Like me, she hated him! A LOT!

"You've gotta defend! DE-FEND! And make use of your feet! You aren't a statue!" he ordered.

"I know! Rubberduck!" I shot, frustrated. I stared at him with as much hatred as I could muster then stormed off to my position. Don't ask me why I called him rubberduck. I don't even know why. But then, it irritated him a lot. So I called him that. Those girls started to giggle as his face turned beet-red.

"You better..." he mumbled. "Shut up, rubberduck!" I hissed.

Everyone went, "Ooo..."

JOANNA - My Best Friend

I love him.

Plucking the petals of the rose he bought me confirmed that I love him. Or is it because I started off with "I Love Him"? But then again, why was I plucking the petals of the rose he gave me? Why did I accept it in the first place?

After I dumped my boyfriend and maybe got rejected once or twice, I told myself not to believe in love again. But he somehow still managed to sweep me of my feet. Or at least that's what they say.

I wasn't head over heels about him, but I definitely cared for him. And I'm sure he cared for me, too. I remember how we called each other names and end up not talking to each other the rest of the day; I remember how he would push me on the swing when I demanded to go higher; I remember how we could find fun in just running around in the porch; I remember how he borrowed his shoulder for me to lean on when I cried; I remember how I would react after he explained the solution to an algebra question. I was dumb; I was mischievous; I was a brat. Yet, he cared for me.

Things were so simple then. We were innocent, vulnerable......naive. But when puberty hit, we both realised that we're not of the same species. Things changed, but we were still close friends.

When I started dating guys, things got even worse. We stopped talking, stopped sitting together during lunch and even stopped acknowledging each other's existence. I don't know why, it just happened. And then I realised it was the cupid's dirty job when I found out he was secretly in love with me. It was because of the innocent four-letter word -- love.

After learning the truth, I decided to completely isolate myself from him. I made sure that I wasn't in the same bus as he is; I made every arrangement I could to make sure he wasn't in the same class as I am; I would avoid the hallway if he was there. I made every effort I could to disappear from his life. He is my best friend. He was my best friend. I couldn't love him that way. I didn't want to love him that way! I never did believe in childhood sweethearts.

Rumours spread that he was dating a freshman when we were sophomores. I was glad. Happy that he found someone who loves him back that way too; happy that I need not break his heart.

Everything was perfectly fine after that. We both somehow moved on to more mature conversations and no-nonsense jokes. Yes, it took me a whole lot of courage to face him and since then, we were buds again. Definitely no more mischievous antics, childish tantrums and pulling pranks on our not-so-favourite teacher. Things were undeniably more careful.

I still borrowed his shoulder once or twice; we still talk on the phone occasionally till late at night until someone dozes off first; he was still the more intellectual one and I was still the more rebellious one. Sometimes I wonder how did I end up being his best friend. We were total opposites, yet, the bestest mates one could ever imagine.

I guess he never did got over me. When I committed myself to my first relationship, he wasn't at all pleased. He didn't like the idea of me having two favourite guys. He wanted to be my one and only favourite guy. It only took me two seconds to realise that he was still in love with me.

God only knows why I broke up with my boyfriend to be with him. I wasn't in love with him at all. I knew I wasn't in love with him at all! But I felt oblige to feel so, we went through so much thick and thin!

The wind blew away the petals that were scattered on the table. I was still holding the stem. I held it to my heart. I let my heartbeat slow. Listening to the rhythm my heart beating, my breathing slowed eventually.

My conscience and I both agreed that he wasn't the one.

I went to my room, picked up the phone and dialled his number.

This is going to be a long night.

-End-

JOANNA
